Hallie has the WINNING LOOK

Hallie Pegg 16, has been named winner of The Look Competition, ambassador for this years event.

Townsville Fashion Festival President Kristin Martin said Hallie “ticked all the boxes”. “In the winner, apart from being a model, you have to be well spoken, you have to have good poise, you have to be down to earth, you have to be nice and get along with everyone,” she said.

Hallie is the face of the festival for 2017 and you will soon be seeing much more from the young local model.

Our Queen Elsa has The Look

OUR very own Queen Elsa will grace the runway at today’s grand final for the Townsville Fashion Festival’s ‘The Look’ competition.

The stunning Jessica Navin, with her ice blue eyes, porcelain skin and long blonde hair, will be one of 10 finalists to sashay down the catwalk from midday — with the winner set to become the face of the festival.

However the 21-year-old model-hopeful already holds the title of the city’s best Elsa look-alike, she’s known around town for bringing unbelievable joy to young Frozen fans appearing at birthday parties as the Disney character after launching her business Enchanted Princess Appearances.

“I started braiding my long hair to the side last year and people would come up to me in the street to say ‘Hey do you know you look like Elsa from Frozen?’,” she said.

From there it snowballed after the former Pimlico State High School student, who also works part time at Juliettes while studying primary education, bought a $350 Elsa dress from a Chinese website and incorporated face painting, story telling, dancing and singing Let It Go into her appearances.

“The joy I bring to little kids faces, that’s why I do it. They’re so innocent and it’s so rewarding to make them feel like they’re in a fantasy world where Elsa has just popped out of the TV,” Jessica said.

“I’ve watched the movie a few times because of all the questions the kids ask — they want to know if I can show them my magic ice powers, but I just tell them Townsville is a bit too hot for that and they believe me, which is so cute.”However nothing prepared Jessica for appearing as Elsa alongside Santa Claus in Flinders St at Townsville City Council’s 2016 Christmas event “Sparkle in the City” — she had hundreds of kids and their parents lining up to meet her and get a photo.

FASHION FEST SEEKS TO FIT IN NEW FACES

THE Townsville Fashion Festival is looking for new volunteers who will prove the perfect fit.

Outgoing president Madonna Simmons said the festival, which will be held in May, was looking for new committee members and urged anyone interested in fashion to get involved.

“I’ll step down if there’s somebody ready to step up,” she said. “I’d love to see somebody in the industry take on the role.” Ms Simmons said the Townsville Fashion Festival had been running for five years and was growing.

“It’s gone from a one-day event to a week-long event,” she said. “Retail employs more people in this region than mining and other industries. There have been many designs that have graced the catwalks that have done great things.

“Mark Ferguson’s clothes have been stocked in David Jones. The Fashion Festival is an opportunity to showcase that kind of talent.” At tonight’s annual meeting, the festival will look for a new president, secretary and ordinary management committee members.Ms Simmons said the event included not just fashion but related industries such as photography, hairdressing, makeup artistry and wearable art. The annual meeting will be held at 6pm at Townsville Golf Club in Benson St.
